Budget Friendly Smart-home NAS & HomeKit Integration! 🏠💾
Turn a Raspberry Pi 4 into a powerful, budget-friendly NAS and smart-home hub with OMV, Docker, Scrypted, and Homebridge—all in one box.
I wanted a low-cost smart-home NAS solution, so I set up a Raspberry Pi 4 running:
- Open Media Vault (OMV)
Serves as a shared drive with a 3–4TB external HDD. - Docker & Portainer
For container management and simplified deployment. - Scrypted
Streams my Unifi security cameras to HomeKit — works better for me than Homebridge in this use case. - Homebridge
Bridges all my non-native HomeKit devices like smart plugs, switches, etc.
All of this runs smoothly on a single Pi 4, and thanks to my custom DNS, Pi-hole, and WireGuard VPN, I can securely access everything remotely — bandwidth and network conditions permitting.
💡 Anyone else running something cool on a Pi?
Drop your builds, setups, or smart-home experiments — I’m always down to swap ideas. 💿👨💻🛠️
