I wanted a low-cost smart-home NAS solution, so I set up a Raspberry Pi 4 running:

  • Open Media Vault (OMV)
Serves as a shared drive with a 3–4TB external HDD.
  • Docker & Portainer
For container management and simplified deployment.
  • Scrypted
Streams my Unifi security cameras to HomeKit — works better for me than Homebridge in this use case.
  • Homebridge
Bridges all my non-native HomeKit devices like smart plugs, switches, etc.

All of this runs smoothly on a single Pi 4, and thanks to my custom DNS, Pi-hole, and WireGuard VPN, I can securely access everything remotely — bandwidth and network conditions permitting.

💡 Anyone else running something cool on a Pi?
